  • If you’re thinking about splurging on a bathroom remodel, welcome to the club!  Knowing a few tips and tricks can shorten your project time and leave you with a better outcome.  You’ll be happy you reviewed these recommendations at the end of your remodel:

    Have a Budget

Before you start a project, you should know two things: 1.) How much does the average project cost and 2.) What is your project budget?  With any remodel, it’s easy to spend on your ideal design and overshoot the total cost you wanted to spend.  Make sure to plan a budget around the size of your bathroom, quality of materials, and use of contractors.

    Hide the Toilet

Whether you ask a designer or homeowner, they will likely tell you this: design your bathroom so you can’t see the toilet all the time.  Let’s be real – it’s easy to leave the bathroom door open, and the last thing we want to see is the toilet as the focal point.

    Leave the Vintage Finishing Touches

Bathroom remodels typically include a modern touch, but that doesn’t mean vintage finishings aren’t in.  We recommend splurging in other places and keeping the vintage tiles and flair.  Not only can removal of wall tiles and other vintage elements be difficult and costly to remove, but they also add a timely aspect to any master bath.

Don’t Be Afraid to Remodel a Small Space

Have a small half-bath you want to remodel?  There are many design options to make it the best guest bath possible.

    • Corner Sink – It’s easy to free up space by putting a sink in the corner of your bathroom.  With a corner sink, you’ll minimize traffic-flow issues and leave more space for other design focal points.
    • Tiny Tub (or Shower) – Depending on the entry door to your shower, you may have some problems with installing a full-sized bathtub.  A smaller tub – and even shower – can be great alternatives to full-sized baths and are popular options amongst Michigan homeowners.
    • Perfect Sized Vanity – The perfect vanity can easily be used as your bathroom focal point.  However, it’s important to get the sizing and material right.  Work with a good designer, and this part of your bathroom can transcend the space.

    Be Mindful of Ventilation

Bathrooms are the prime suspects of mold and mildew growth.  By removing moisture, your bathroom – and home – will be better off.  Before signing off on the final design, think about adding extra ventilation and top-notch fan to do the trick.
